REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE AWARDING OF THE COLONIAL AUXILIARY FORCES

LONG SERVICE MEDAL,

\PEGES ! (1)-(1.) Volunteers may be granted a Medal desiguated "The Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Servico Medal," subject to the following conditions, that is to say,-

(a.) the period of service requisite to qualify for the Medal shall be 20 years. Service on the West Coast of Africa shall reckon double as qualifying service;

(b) service rendered partly in the Local Forces of one Colony or Protectorate and partly in the Local Forces of another Colony or Protectorate, or partly in the Local Forces of one or more Colonies or Protectorates and partly in the Volunteer Force of Great Britain, shall be reckoned as qualifying service for the Medal, provided that no officer or man shall be eligible uuless at least half his service has been rendered in the Militia or Volunteer Forces of one or more Colonies or Protectorates, service on the West Coast of Africa counting double;

(c.) service on the Permanent Staff shall not reckon as qualifying service for

the Medal; and

(d) an officer who has served in the ranks of a Volunteer Corps in Great Britain, or of the Militia or Volunteers of a Colony or Protectorate, but who is not qualified for the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration, shall, on completing 20 years service in all, be eligible to receive the Medal.

(2.) The qualifying service for the Medal need not be continuous,

(3.) The Modal may also be granted to Volunteers who have retired after com- pleting 20 years' service.

(4.) Service qualifying for the Medal will also count towards the necessary qualifying service for "The Volunteer Long Service Medal," but no officer or man is eligible for such medal unless 10 years' service has been spent in the Volunteer Force of Great Britain.

2. Applications for the Medal will be made on Army Form E 593, through the Commandant and the General Officer Commanding the Troops, to the Governor, whose decision upon the validity or otherwise of any claim for the Medal will be. absolutely final.

Nominal roll of 3. The Commandant will forward with Army Form E 593 a nominal roll of applicants. applicants, arranged alphabetically, on Army Form E 565. This roll will be forwarded in duplicate, one copy being retained by the General Officer Commanding the Troops, and the other forwarded, with his recommendations, to the Governor. The individual applications (Army Form E 593) will not be forwarded to the Governor.

4. Names of recipients will be promulgated in Corps' Orders, after the publication names of recipi- of which the original applications (Army Form E 598) will be returned by the General Officer Commanding the Troops to the Head Quarters of the Corps, for record and retention. The distribution of Medals will be made by the Senior Officer of the Corps, beach by Offres Commanding the shall decide, at the earliest time that good muster of Volunteers can be reckoned upon.

5. When the conduct of an officer or a volunteer after he has been awarded the Medal has been such as to disqualify him from wearing it, he may be deprived of it by the Governor.

6. A Medal forfeited by an officer or volunteer under the provisions of the last preceding Regulation may be restored to him by the Governor.

7. When a Medal has been lost, and it is desired to replace it, a declaration must be made before a Magistrate stating the circumstances under which the loss occurred and the rank and name of the officer or volunteer to whom the Medal belonged. This declaration will be forwarded to the Colonial Secretary, through the Commandan: in the case of an officer or volunteer who is still serving, and direct in the case of one who has retired. The Medal will be replaced, on payment, if the explanation as to its loss is considered satisfactory.
